A dream of a café at the Town Hall is coming true. The long planned café with quality products and a high-class interior will open up in the beginning of July.
The construction on the Town Hall Café & Bakery is progressing smoothly allthough space modifications in this highly protected buildning are not easy. In our case the modifications are limited to the spaces which are originally indicated to commercial purposes. When the Town Hall was completed in 1952 a bank was operating in the same space.
As a head designer of this project acts architect Tomi Jänkälä from .618 Arkkitehdit Oy. Responsible for interior design of the café are Australians interior designer Leigh Ellwood and architect Donald Holt. We are really flattered that Leigh and Donald are so engaged to help us. We have seen first sketches and they are amazing. The interior will respect the sprit of the Town Hall and Aalto’s design. We are very excited.
This ambitious project won’t succeed without committed collaborators. Artek has already announced the willingness to be a part of this project, as well as Marimekko. The discussions with some others are still going on.
In a few weeks we are going to launch a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo to finance this project. We would be very happy if you liked to be a part of the story of Säynätsalo Town Hall. Please, follow our Facebook and Twitter and we let you know when the campaign will be launched.
